 SOLOS

1

A New World

Performer: Braden Rymer

Music: String Quartet M. 35, II Assez vif- Très Rhythmé by Maurice Ravel

My piece explores my move to the East Coast and the challenges both I and my voice have faced, as well as the journey toward discovering my voice and, ultimately, more of myself.

*

I loved performing my solo! There were a couple words I forgot to share but I still feel like my message came across. I was surprised how the choreography really started to stick!

Em

Performer: Rey Sunglao

My solo work will explore my relationship with Emann, my double bass and how we both overcame challenges together.

 *

I really enjoyed performing this piece. It was a bit emotional for me to share it but I'm confident that the story resonated with a few. I chose William Grant Still's Summerland to accompany the movements and texts I curated because I connect with the melodies well.

Mending the Bond

 Performer: Cassidy Holmes

In this piece I will explore a conflict between my voice and I and will try to mend the relationship between a performer and his instrument, a dance that explores the relationship between a singer and her voice.

 Dichotomies

Performer: Nathaniel Holman

This piece represents the dichotomies of my percussion playing - slow and fast - and how they come together as one peaceful combination that works in tandem. The piece is performed to Pyramid Song by Radiohead, an off kilter tune that finally comes together when the drums enter and establish pulse, thus ending my performance.

我曾停留过的地方 The Place I Left Behind

Music: 《马》 by 福禄寿

Link to music: https://youtu.be/Zkw2vGxAxSo?si=-Zr7mRrzmnDMNDwt

In this piece, I will be using a chair and a scarf to express my relationship with a person or a memory I once held onto. The chair represents a place where I stayed for too long, and the scarf represents that person or memory—something soft, familiar, but also difficult to let go. Inspired by the energy of 《马》, the choreography moves through approaching, holding, being pulled, and finally releasing.

Through stillness and motion, the piece follows this journey:

• I hold the memory in my hand.

• I drift, pulled by wind and expectation.

• I realize the person or memory is weighing me down.

• And in the end, I let it go and step forward on my own path.
